"Practice Resurrection" - Wendell Berry

What is it with Southern families and not wanting to let their children go off into the world? I remember when I made the decision to move further north..my family was personally offended that I’d want to venture into a life without them. And then…AND THEN to further complicate things, they attempted to use money to control my actions. It’s like..the South wants blossoming and vibrant individuals but those individuals should never want to seek a life outside of their hometown.

Why is this? Is this just my family and possibly a few others?
