"Practice Resurrection" - Wendell Berry

Instead of making up a bullshit argument and pulling words from the internet...

I’ll be honest. I don’t know all the intricate details of the proposed healthcare bill. Yeah, I understand the basics of it. I even attended a lecture given by one of the Kentucky Representatives who did a hell of a job explaining what the heck is going on in D.C. But that doesn’t mean I am now an expert or can even begin to lobby for one side or the other…or the other…or the other (see what I did? I realized there are many sides as opposed to only two).

My thoughts on the issue are based on conversations that I have every day through the work that I do. And let me tell you—-the opinions that need to be voiced the most at town meetings or through the halls of Capitol Hill won’t be heard because those voices are too busy working to make sure they can pay their electric bills next month. Those voices are too busy trying to find a way to buy notebooks for their kids and hopefully managing to stave off creditors for another month. Not all of these people…but many of them are in “hard times” for many reasons, one of the biggest being lack of insurance or shoddy insurance that left them with nothing but…well nothing. So now they’re forced to work harder than their previously healthy bodies could do. Eventually..there will be a breakdown. You can’t tell these people to work harder or to try harder. They’re doing that…they’re already fighting and have been fighting. What you can do is try to find a way to lessen the burden by fighting for some kind of reform.
